Current measurement using a hall effect sensor instead of an ammeter

I needed a way to measure amperage for a RACES project and came across this hacker that used a hall sensor to see whether he needed to replace the alternator in his car w/ a standard version
or high output one.

Gareth's bot contains a BFO (Beat Frequency Oscillator) mounted on a sweeping arm that is housed on a autonomous. So far he hasn't hit it big, but it would be interesting to sweep a parking lot after a county fair.
